Austin-based Lactation Clinic Partners with Local Milk Bank to Give Back to Breastfeeding Mothers
AUSTIN – Breast milk is a hot commodity and the ideal choice of many families to feed their babies. However, there are a multitude of reasons why mothers may be unable to provide their own milk to feed their babies. My Pure Delivery, a lactation consulting clinic based in Cedar Park Texas, believes that every mother deserves the opportunity to feed their baby with breastmilk if they so desire, which is why they partner with Mothers Milk Bank at Austin to provide milk for those families in need.
Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin is the largest human milk donation center in the country. Milk Banks provide donor breast milk to those in need, most often medically fragile babies in the NICU whose survival depends on it. Breast milk has the power to save lives, and My Pure Delivery’s partnership with Mother’s Milk Bank aims to contribute to the effort through taking in milk donations and promoting their mission. Since their founding in 1999, Mothers Milk Bank at Austin has received an estimated total of 7.5 million ounces of donated breastmilk, feeding millions of babies along the way.
Mothers Milk Bank has a four step process for becoming an approved breast milk donor. This process helps ensure the safety of the milk they receive for babies in need. Anyone who has a surplus of milk can donate after approval. Many people don’t realize that if a person loses a baby during pregnancy, their body may continue to produce breast milk depending on when in the pregnancy the baby was lost. Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin ensures that every ounce of donated milk from mothers who have lost their babies will be provided directly to babies in need or used in their research lab if it cannot be fed safely to recipient babies.
My Pure Delivery partners with Mothers Milk Bank as a donation site for families in the area to drop off donor milk if their location is more convenient than taking it directly to the Mothers Milk Bank. Since becoming a donation drop off site in September 2020, My Pure Delivery has collected over 10,000 ounces of breastmilk and is projected to reach over 20,000 by the one year anniversary of becoming a donation drop off site. Since the beginning of the pandemic, My Pure Delivery has been collecting breast milk donations via contactless curbside drop-off, so families don’t have to get out of the car in order to leave their breast milk safely.
