LOS ANGELES, CA – May 24, 2023 – Urban Renaissance Entertainment’s fan-fiction short film, “Triggered: A Cinematic Superhero Fan Film,” has added another feather to its cap, winning its 25th film festival award at the annual IndieX Fest Awards Ceremony.

The 21-minute film, dedicated to the memory of co-star and Co-Executive Producer Steven James Tingus, was screened at the Regal L.A Live on May 6th, 2023, alongside 70 films from across the globe, including France, Germany, and Vietnam. “Triggered” emerged as one of the 12 winners of the monthly awards in 2022 and was amongst the 3 finalists at the festival, taking home the award for Best Fantasy Short.

In attendance were several cast members, crew, and special guests, including Urban Renaissance Entertainment CEO Marcus Nel-Jamal Hamm, who also served as writer, Co-Executive Producer, Co-director, and Co-star of the film. Other attendees included cast members Fernando Marrero, Robert Dobson, Sapphire Tabor, and Anthony Williams, as well as special celebrity guest Lori Livingston of MCU fame, Cinematographer and Co-Director Mario Ricardo Rodriguez and Tina Harris, the surviving family member of Steven James Tingus who served as Co-Executive Producer and Co-star.

“This win is a testament to our relentless efforts to advocate and celebrate diversity and disability inclusion in our productions. The reception and accolades ‘Triggered’ has received serve as motivation to continue telling these important stories,” said Hamm.

Just a few weeks prior, on April 23rd, 2023, “Triggered” was honored with its 24th award for Outstanding Fan Film at the 10th annual Las Vegas Black Film Festival, further cementing its status as a trailblazer in the independent film circuit.

“Triggered” serves as an example of the industry’s increasing openness to diversity in film and disability inclusion, a cause passionately advocated by the late Steven James Tingus. It continues to resonate with independent film watchers, superhero movie fans, and champions of diversity and disability inclusion.
