Conch Shell International Film Fest Unites Caribbean and Caribbean Diaspora Film Communities

New York, New York – Conch Shell International Film Fest (CSIFF) takes place May 21-23, 2021. The online film festival will feature short films, live panels, masterclasses, and an award ceremony. All events will take on the Filmocracy film streaming platform. 

This three-day online event (presented by Conch Shell Productions) is a celebration of the unique voices of filmmakers of Caribbean heritage and a conference for discussing the future possibilities for eliminating barriers for entry into the international film market for current and future filmmakers. Films by Caribbean & Caribbean Diaspora artist from U.S., U.K., Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Martinique, and Guadeloupe include experimental, documentary, narrative, and animated films. The series daily on demand streaming of all festival films and pre-recorded artist Q&A available to film pass and all-access pass holders. Opening Day (Friday May 21) live events include an artist chat moderated by CSIFF founder Magaly Colimon-Christopher (“Antoinette Pierre” of Netflix Series GRAND ARMY); and a plenary session about the festival featuring Award Jury members actress Odley Jean (“Dominique Pierre” of Netflix Series Grand Army), writer Anslem Richardson (Amazon “The Boys”), actor Keith Randolph Smith (CBS Access “The Good Wife”), producer/attorney Martin Robert Majeske, and producer/director Marquis Smalls. 

Saturday’s Live panel discussion include – Caribbean Films & Language: Strategies to Highlight Authentic Narratives in a Multi-Lingual Setting; Traditional and Disruptive Film Financing Strategies; The Importance of Film Scoring; Improving the Visibility and Discoverability of Caribbean Films, Creators and Actors. Our festival masterclass – Disrupting the Norms of Distribution in Film and Television – will be led by producer Monty Ross. 

Sunday’s live panels include Dismantling Barriers to Entry for Emerging Filmmakers; COVID19 Protocol on TV & Film Sets: Today & Beyond; and Breaking Down the Barriers to Collaboration Between Artists of Caribbean Diaspora and the Caribbean. The festival closes on Sunday May 23 with the CSIFF Award ceremony. In addition to the Audience Choice Award (winner will be selected by festival attendees), we will be presenting the following Jury Awards: Best Film; Best Director; Best Screenwriter; Best Lead Performer; and Best Cinematographer.
