The MCS~Fund Fundraiser held on World Sickle Day, June 19, 2021

CLEVELAND – On June 19, 2021, World Sickle Day, The MCS~Fund will host “The Virtual Fundraiser 2021” World Sickle Cell Day to support people living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). World Sickle Day is observed annually to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease, as well as the challenges experienced by patients, their families and caregivers.

“Sickle cell anemia is one of the most deadly and unfortunately misunderstood diseases in the world,” says Teresa S. McCurry, founder and president of The MCS~Fund. “Sickle cell disease affects millions of people throughout the world. Managing SCD can be expensive, complicated, and sometimes overwhelming for patients. While no readily available cure has been identified, patients require constant management of the condition to ensure they lead a happy and productive life.”

McCurry created The MCS~Fund in honor of her late Meesha Chanell Saxton, who was born on Oct. 17, 1995 and diagnosed with SCD. She unfortunately passed at only 14 months old, on Dec. 24, 1996, due to complications and the miseducation of SCD.

The purpose of The Fund is to relieve financial burdens and be a blessing to individuals affected by SCD and their families. Most of the SCD affected individuals MCS~Fund support are low-income and members of underserved populations. The Fund provides assistance with utilities, rent, food, medical supplies, transportation, and everyday basic needs.

“As a result of continued fundraising, steady donations, and funding from various grants, we are able to assist the ‘Champions of SCD’ with monetary rewards in the amount $150 per request for residents of Cuyahoga County, Ohio,” says McCurry. “These rewards can be gained by completing an application through a case manager or social worker.”

The MCS~Fund’s World Sickle Cell Day fundraiser, “The Virtual Fundraiser 2021” will begin at 9:19 a.m. An entire day of activities will include a prayer with a purpose, bingo, rhinestone T-shirt design workshop, sip & paint, game night, presentations, and a 50/50 raffle. The MCS~Fund will also giveaway themed baskets to 12 lucky ticket holders.
