AccessBridge Launches Healthcare Administration Career Accelerator (HACA) To Take On Lack Of Diversity In The Field Of Healthcare Administration
The 10-week career accelerator provides minority college students, recent graduates, and early talent in healthcare administration and related fields real world experience, leadership & career development training, connections to industry leaders, mentors & sponsors, career opportunities, and more.

Miami, Florida – Dec 29, 2020 – According to the American Hospital Association Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, the percentage of minorities in health care leadership roles from 2011-2015 stagnated at just 9% in the C-suite, 11-12% in executive leadership, and 14% in board membership. This despite a growing percentage of minorities graduating with degrees in healthcare administration — 42% in the 2009-2010 school year.* Those that do land a leadership role in the healthcare industry make 8-17% less than their White counterparts with the same level of education and experience.**

“The healthcare administration field has made little progress in closing those opportunity and pay gaps at the leadership level,” says Doris Jean Pierre, founder and director of AccessBridge, a career development platform for healthcare administration. “In some cases, we’ve even gone backwards.”

Jean Pierre, who holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University, experienced those disparities first-hand after graduating with her BA in Health Services Administration from Florida International University in 2016. “It became obvious to me that there was no direct college-to-career pipeline for minorities in healthcare administration and leadership. So many talented, emerging leaders were being left behind.”

In response, Jean Pierre founded the AccessBridge platform while interning at Kaiser Permanente in 2018. The platform’s signature program — the Healthcare Administration Career Accelerator (HACA) — will connect early-career talent to healthcare organizations, and welcomes its first cohort in January 2021.

HACA is a remote experiential learning program that matches minority healthcare administration students and graduates to healthcare organizations for high-quality 10-week internships.

“What we mean when we say ‘high-quality internships’ is that we don’t want our interns relegated to answering emails or managing executive schedules,” says Jean Pierre. “HACA is offering leadership talent to organizations and we ensure they work on meaningful projects that can help accelerate their careers.”

For students, HACA provides 10 weeks of robust training, mentorship, real-world experience, network connections, and post-program career guidance as graduates look to enter permanent positions.

For healthcare organizations, HACA provides an all-in-one talent pipeline solution, from recruitment to training and mentorship to payroll and beyond. Jean Pierre says the program wants to make it as easy as possible for healthcare companies to access and retain diverse early talent. She also partners with universities to increase employability & workforce readiness for minority students.
