Umoja Events will be hosting their Virtual Juneteenth Kwanzaa Festival and Market from December 26, 2020, through January 1, 2021. In response to the unique challenges presented by COVID-19 this year, Umoja Events CEO and Robin Hood 2020 Hero of New York Athenia Rodney is taking an innovative approach to celebration while supporting small Black-owned businesses. The event can conveniently be accessed online each day from 9 am-5 pm. 

The celebration will highlight Kwanzaa’s principles and the role they play in the Black community, festivities that are typically held in person. Attendees can expect to encounter fun activities such as storytelling, book readings, and family games. There will also be inspiring performances, fashion shows, and discussions to empower the Black community to embrace their best selves come the New year.

Umoja Events is even bringing in Black professionals to discuss topics like Child mindfulness and Financial Preparation to Educate the mind, body, and soul. Attendees can also look forward to hearing firsthand from Black Nurses who will be discussing topics related to COVID-19. Kwanzaa is the annual celebration of African American culture; the weeklong event will conclude with a full presentation of its elements and how different families celebrate it.

The annual Juneteenth Kwanzaa Festival and Market will be hosting a fundraiser in the form of a live auction now through January 1, 2021. Items up for auction range from handmade jewelry, mentor sessions, artwork, and even a vacation. The money raised by the event will go directly toward grants that Umoja Events will award small business owners registered for their Juneteenth 2021 celebration.

Since COVID-19 poses a significant threat to small businesses, Umoja Events strives to offer Black business owners continued support. Dubbed a Robin Hood Hero for taking charge in her community during the pandemic, Athenia Rodney is going beyond her work in Brownsville to give small businesses the necessary push to success through the holiday season.

“Being able to see the Black community come together and empower one another is the reason I do this,” says the host of the Virtual Juneteenth Kwanzaa Festival and Market Athenia Rodney.
