Fort Collins, CO, USA – December 17, 2020 – One of the leading private label manufacturers of functional pet products increased their commitment to sustainability in 2020 with a massive renewable energy initiative. PetDine, headquartered in Fort Collins, CO, in partnership with Pedigree Ovens, in Harvard, IL, has become one of the first manufacturing facilities, within the pet industry, to power their primary production facility, using 100% solar power. Preston Munsch, CEO of PetDine, says, “The reduction on the environment by going solar with our facility is not only cost-effective, but also saves over one hundred and sixty-two gallons of gasoline per year, and saves nearly one hundred and sixty thousand pounds of coal burned each year. I give my partner Kurt Stricker tremendous credit for taking the initiative on this project.”

Ground was broken on the 1,703.52 kilowatt solar system earlier this year, and this four-acre installation was completed in October of 2020. The array was custom-built into the shape of a dog bone and paw and supplies the entirety of the 212,000-square foot facility’s electricity. “It doesn’t stop there,” Munsch, said in an interview. “It will save energy costs, reduce our carbon footprint, and allows us to sustainably support our clients. After all, everything we do is for the health of pets; this is no different.”

PetDine chewed the numbers and estimated that the photovoltaics hold the potential to offset 1,456 tons of greenhouse gases each year. Over the next 25 years, the impact holds the possibility of producing a total of 51,000,000 kWh, which equates to 9,00 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the power used to charge 1.15 billion smartphones, 22,090,165 miles driven by a passenger vehicle, and prevents 50 rail cars of coal from being burned. Munsch says, “Our company takes pride in the fact that we use renewable energy to produce functional pet products. I’d say we’re more than pet friendly; we’re environmentally friendly too.”
