NEW CANAAN, Connecticut – December 16, 2020 – Voices Center for Resilience (VOICES) will host its annual “Always Remember” Virtual Gala on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at 7:00PM.  The fundraiser for the nearly 20-year-old nonprofit will be held online.  From 9/11 to today, VOICES provides support for individuals and communities impacted by tragedy in the United States and abroad.  Proceeds from the event will benefit VOICES programs.

Hosted by longstanding ESPN personalities Mike Greenberg and Jeremy Schaap, the inspirational evening will include guest speakers, an awards program, and a musical performance by Daniel Rodriguez, “America’s Tenor,” winner of the USO Lifetime Achievement Award. The program also highlights stories of prominent athletes and others who have demonstrated resilience in the aftermath of tragedy.

Mr. Greenberg and Mr. Schaap reflect on how sports were front and center after 9/11 and played a cathartic, uplifting role to help our nation heal. The gala features segments from several memorable games and events including clips from prominent sports figures and personalities commenting about the fortitude, resilience and determination that united a nation after tragedy. Guests will hear from Bobby Valentine, Mark Messier, Joe Andruzzi, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Billy Crystal and President George Bush, as they relay their personal remarks from that period.

Plus, Mike Greenberg conducts a special interview with George Martin, former defensive end of the New York Giants, about his walk across America and his journey for 9/11.

Three Champions of Resilience will be honored: the VOICES Leadership Award will be presented to New Canaan resident, George Bodenheimer, former President and Executive Chairman, ESPN, Inc. The organization’s Building Bridges Award will be presented to Thomas B. Michaud, President & CEO, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods; and famed former New York Giants Defensive End George Martin will receive the VOICES Legacy Award.

“This year we are honored to recognize three remarkable Champions of Resilience who have contributed so much, both personally and professionally. During these unpredictable times, VOICES work is more important than ever.  Tragedies have profound consequences, yet when individuals have the support they need they are able to build resilience in their lives. The pandemic is no exception, says VOICES founder Mary Fetchet.

All proceeds will benefit VOICES work to assist communities preparing for and recovering from tragedy, and to provide long-term support and resources that promote mental health care and wellness in victims’ families, survivors and responders.

All are invited to attend, and the event is FREE. Registration is required.
