PrivacyEnBescherming warns against soaring online crime rates
There are thousands of incredibly competent hackers out there who are genuine tech-savvies, with knowledge in combination with amazing equipment have made a deadly partnership, evading authorities for years and stealing large sums of money.

December 7, 2020 – The COVID-19 pandemic has led to lots of quarantines and lockdowns, consequently nailing millions of people to their computer chairs at their homes. Working online, paying the bills online, shopping online… Some people have more or less started “living online” thus exposing a lot of their personal information to potential theft. And this has not gone unnoticed by the hackers who prospered during the past several months, according to the reports from a Dutch internet security firm PrivacyEnBescherming.

The PrivacyEnBescherming chairman stated in disbelief: “It is an abashing notion to contemplate seeing hackers feed off people who have suffered greatly in these difficult times. The market is crashing hard and people are losing jobs, whilst these criminals add more salt to the wound.” Then he added: “But it was to be expected, to be honest. They had no moral code before and they won’t have it now. This situation came like a rich buffet and they will all eat plenty.”

According to the reports, the main concern is, of course, the lack of security on both private and public networks, with the latter ones being of much more risk. There are thousands of incredibly competent hackers out there who are genuine tech-savvies, and their knowledge in combination with amazing equipment have made a deadly partnership, evading authorities for years and stealing all they can. The authorities have had trouble keeping track of everything even before this situation, now it’s simply impossible.

The first advice the PrivacyEnBescherming firm has given was to try and avoid public networks, especially when using sensitive and private information, like paying bills, transferring money, shopping, and all other kinds of money-related business. Also, any password-protected apps and websites should be avoided as well, for many people have one or two passwords that they use for various purposes. Public networks are often poorly secured and bypassing their security, if any is present, will be a piece of cake for these cybercriminals. Additionally, as being open to everyone, it is much more difficult to prevent the crime and even get in trace of it.

If necessary to use such apps and websites at some point on a public network, having a VPN (a virtual private network) on a laptop or mobile phone is of utmost importance. This is also the case when using private networks as well, for it is known that hackers can more or less easily hack into a personal PC when at home. In both cases, VPN will come incredibly in handy, as the PrivacyEnBescherming firm states, as VPN have layers and layers of protective qualities. Encryptions, location baits, and many more features will prevent hackers from stealing personal information at any point. Not just that, but a VPN will add a lot more to the user’s privacy as well, making the internet activity totally anonymous.
