Even Santa is taking precautions this COVID Christmas season
This Christmas will be one unlike any other – and Santa is taking precautions with Squeezyband, the hand sanitizer wristband that dispenses sanitizer onto one’s palm as it is comfortably worn on the wrist.

Canada – Dec 2, 2020 – As children around the world count down the days until they can unwrap a special delivery by the man in the big, red suit, this Christmas will be one unlike any other- and even Santa is taking precautions.

For one Santa from Stoney Creek, Ontario, the pandemic has meant a seismic shift in how he carries out his role.

Doug Nielsen and his wife Janice who have played the role of Santa and Mrs. Claus for years across Hamilton faced the real prospect that for them Christmas was cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

“We look forward to this season all year and to have a virus that takes away the opportunity to spread joy is truly heartbreaking,” said Doug. “Not being able to bring smiles to the young and old because of the virus would end years of playing these roles.”

Doug and Janice are well-known holiday figures in the Stoney Creek area and in particular, Doug was honoured as the Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year in 2018. That is where he met local filmmaker Moe Masoudi. Along with a passion for filmmaking, Masoudi is also an avid entrepreneur and in just a few short weeks during the depths of the pandemic devised an invention to fight the virus- SQUEEZYBAND, the hand sanitizer wristband that dispenses sanitizer onto one’s palm as it is comfortably worn on the wrist.

Knowing that although the best prevention is washing hands, wearing a mask, and social distancing/staying home as much as possible, there still would be those choosing to do their holiday shopping in-store and visiting others from a distance. So, Masoudi wanted to keep people safe by highlighting a very easy option and enlisted Santa and Mrs. Claus to help spread the word. Masoudi and the Neilsen’s along with their grandchildren Rowan and Bryer, who play Santa’s elves, were able to collaborate on a holiday cheer video to showcase to the world.

The video is voiced by Martin Yap who is well known for voicing the viral holiday video for WestJet titled “WestJet Christmas Miracle” which received over 49 million views. The script was written by Masoudi’s eldest daughter, Nadia. Featuring the hit cover song “Don’t Stop Till’ You Get Enough”, remixed by “Nick*” (original by Michael Jackson), the video offers an upbeat and hopeful attitude to bring out the holiday spirit that the world may currently be reaching for.

To date, the video has over thousands of views and there have been few hundreds of thousands of SQUEEZYBANDS sold across the globe.

But to one jolly ol’ Saint Nick, the hope is to keep everyone safe.

“Please listen to the best public health advice out there and let’s try to keep each other safe,” said Doug. “But if you absolutely need to go out, keep you and others safe by using the SQUEEZYBAND and I’m sure we’ll all be together again next Christmas.”
