NY State Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (NYS-SDVOB) Status Gives Small Businesses Fresh Approach to Growth in Period of Pandemic Recovery!

KINGSTON, N.Y. – November 12, 2020 – With the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic stifling in-person networking, a fresh approach to small business marketing can be just the ticket, says John Mallen who this week announced his 33-year-old PR firm has been accredited as a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business in NY State.

Through the NYS SDVOB certification — received decades after Mallen’s 1960’s era tours in Vietnam — JMC Marketing Communications & PR is offering its JMC 360 Degree services to NY State agencies and other affiliated public sector units.

The state mandates that 6 percent of its buying is allocated to service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Other state entities including authorities, public benefit corporations and some local governments follow suit. “These requirements give a leg up to veterans owned small businesses,” said Mallen.

“Last year more than $100 million flowed to SDVOB’s firms. It’s gratifying to help fellow veterans grow their businesses by winning contracts themselves and serving as subs to prime contractors. It’s remarkable to observe how SDVOB firms in one category will reach out and enlist support from others veteran-owned companies,” Mallen observed.

Robust Capabilities + Custom Service

“Now JMC Marketing Communications & PR can help government units develop strategies and outreach whether it’s a brief one-off effort or larger community-relations campaign,” Mallen said.

“We can bring public agencies our strengths in messaging, communications strategy and planning as well as a robust network of contractors to help with everything from digital and social media, event planning and presentations, as well as PR, videos and more.

“We have built a reputation on providing a depth of experience and capabilities typically expected of much larger firms with the client service and attention of an entrepreneurial venture.”

Big Opportunities for Small Business

State SDVOB certification is a marketing edge for many other small business firms, Mallen says.

“If you own a business and are a vet, you owe it to yourself to check in with Ken Williams and his team at the Division of Service-Disabled Veterans’ Business Development at www.ogs.ny.gov/veterans.
