With many industries rocked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the titanium products market remains strong as key sectors rely on it for their manufacturing processes, California based distributer Alloy Metals Co have revealed.

The Long Beach based company, which is a key provider of titanium products to aerospace and defense companies – including the building of F18 and F35 fighter jets, said titanium sales reported better than expected results in what was a profitable second quarter for the industry, despite worldwide disruption caused by coronavirus.

Titanium is used across a wide range of different sectors, including defense, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, medical, dental, food processing and agricultural.

Alloy Metals Co (AMC) provides titanium sheets, plates, bars and forging. Titanium is 30 per cent stronger than steel, but only half its weight. It is also highly anti-corrosive, to this makes it the perfect material for a wide range of different uses – from simple architectural projects all the way through to advanced aviation projects.

Titanium is usually mixed with aluminum, iron, manganese and molybdenum to create a stronger and more versatile product that performs well under extreme heat, extreme cold and salt water.

Two of the biggest uses of titanium are in the defense and aerospace industries, and AMC provide large amounts of the titanium alloys for titanium products in these sectors.

1. Defense

One the main uses of AMC’s titanium is for building fighter jets, missiles and submarines in defense contracts.

Sheets are used for the skin of aircraft as they are easy to bend and mold, and protects the airplane frame. Titanium plate is thicker and less flexible, so this is used for doors and wings and propellers. Titanium is also used to make engine parts and landing gear.

It is also used for submarines because it does not corrode in sea water and is used for missiles and rockets due to its low weight and high strength.

2. Aerospace

The company also provides for the wider aerospace industry who manufactures aircraft, space vehicles, aircraft engines and any related parts.

All of these types of transport are reliant on high quality, non-corrosive materials that can be exposed to extreme temperatures without compromising the structure of the vehicle and a potentially multi-million dollar, high profile project.

AMC provide titanium alloys, Ti 64, Ti 6242, Ti 662 and Ti 64 ELI, to its customers for all of its different uses.
