CALL ME LISBON: a new service where the city has a voice that chats with its visitors
A WhatsApp service that allows tourists to explore the city as if they had their own local friend.

A friend that welcomes those who come to visit, talks about the most interesting places – usually those nooks that only a local knows –, makes table reservations in the best restaurants, lets you know when you’re being tourist-trapped, helps create the best itineraries, and presents Portuguese culture from the best angle. This is Call me Lisbon: a local “friend” that caters to all your questions, concerns and wishes, 24h a day, through WhatsApp.

What makes it so special? Instead of using bots, this service is provided by a team of real people who know Lisbon like the back of their hands. Call me Lisbon is not supposed to be a travel guide, but a part of a more autonomous experience for travelers, who in most cases already know which places they want to visit. Every experience is unique and this service is here to help. To activate a contact, what tourists have to do is send a “Hey, Lisbon” message to the brand’s WhatsApp number.

The idea came to mind when the creators of the HYGGE cafes, three entrepreneurs who are in love with Lisbon, started helping tourists enjoy unique experiences in the city. They suggested places to visit, restaurants, itineraries and even helped them when problems arose. They started keeping track of the journeys using WhatsApp and ended up becoming true friends that allowed tourists to experience the city through a local’s eyes.

“The feedback was so exciting that we quickly understood we were helping them towards a more immersive city experience, optimizing tourist’s time and promoting constant comfort by being always available in a simple chat window”, says one of the project’s idealists, Joana Ribeiro.

“This isn’t an app or a tourist guide, it’s a friend that’s available 24/7 on WhatsApp – a simple conversation like we all have with our friends, family or co-workers. This friend helps you find the best restaurant and book a table, as well as taking care of all aspects related to individual well-being: a trip to the doctor’s office, a problem with the car, and other less fortunate things that no tourist is immune to”, says Furkan Ismail, project idealist.

“We believe this is something that can change the way people visit different countries. Imagine what it would be like if you had a local best friend in every city in the world?” adds Adam Ismail, the third project idealist.

The service will be available from August 28th and features 3 different packs: 3 days, 5 days and 7 days, with accessible pricing options for a fully personalized experience. Every pack has a 2-day free trial period to allow user experimentation.
