Contribution of Parul University in fighting back Covid-19

Ensuring the continuation of the learning and teaching process has been one of the greatest challenges presented by COVID-19 which has affected a significant number of academic higher educational institutions. However, this Vadodara, Gujarat, India based University has managed to keep the wheels of education spinning by providing effective social, economic and digital systems to support the students, staff and the society throughout this pandemic period.

Online Examinations for 28,000 Across Different States and Countries with prompt declaration of results for commencing the new academic year.

Parul University availed the services of the World Assessment Council’s globally renowned examination platform, to provide an efficient, effective and credible system of student evaluation and ensure the progression of the academics. Through this platform, the University conducted examinations for over 28,000 students simultaneously. This smart digital platform makes use of artificial intelligence to ensure that there is no malpractice through proctoring, live audio and video feeds, deviation detections, amongst other features creating the highest form of transparency through the entire examination process. The examination results have already been declared, making the graduating class of 2020 ready for the world, and commencing the academic calendar for the current and freshmen students.

University procures 500 Laptops to support Distance teaching and online Foundation Classes for 3000 students

During the examination period, Parul University was also preparing for its new academic year 2020-21, and to welcome their new student freshmen. For the prospective students, the University has organised online foundation classes to guide the students into their new academic journey. To also make the online process possible the University procured 500 laptops for their faculties to effectively facilitate distance learning. The students also got to learn various online courses to ensure their skill development and engagement amidst the lockdown.

Continuing its relations with the industry for professional development and student career opportunities.

Beyond the internships, the University has continued its placement culture, by organising a mega job fair week. The Job fair acted as a digital recruitment platform with students getting an opportunity to face recruiters from 15 eminent companies across various sectors for a period of 5 days. Adding on to the University’s online support services, it went on to facilitate various industries and corporates through online executive development programs. The programs have been serving the purpose of bridging the industry-academia gap, paving a way for students to engage with various recruiters.

Taking academic talks, motivational talks and practical learning Digital

In line with the academics, the University got to organize and host over 600 webinars which have been acting as the ideal knowledge sharing platforms, giving the students comprehensive insights from experts in the fields of higher education and the industry. On top of the webinars, the University has been hosting over 50 live sessions with celebrities in numerous Bollywood entertainment industries such as Bhoomi Trivedi, Manoj Joshi, Rupali Jagga, Mukesh Chhabra etc. To guarantee that the students get hands-on training exposure, the University has been implementing the virtual labs project by the Ministry of Human Resource Development with over 190 labs and 900 web enabled experiments. Making use of such digital platforms, the University has been bringing together its alumni to engage intalks related to various subjects.

Innovating start up solutions to COVID-19 challenges.

In line with its entrepreneurship initiatives, the University has also been awarded grants of up to 20 lacs from the Student Open Innovation Challenge, which has been dedicated towards upscaling 22 innovative start up projects. These projects have been centered on providing practical solutions to some of the challenges which have been created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, to ensure the continuous progression of academics, the researchers and academicians of the University have gone the extra mile of filing 8 patents in line with the need to solve COVID-19 issues.

Creating employment For 500 people during Lockdown and ensuring Timely Salaries and No Cut Offs with Regular Increments to staff members amidst COVID-19

In order to ensure the financial welfare of its teaching and non-teaching staff, the University has made countless efforts to avoid salary cuts and to ensure that staff members get to receive their timely salaries. They have also been providing regular increments as scheduled to the faculties and to make this possible, the top management went on to forfeit their full month salaries, In the previous month of June. In addition to this, in order to supplement their much-needed academic resources, the University also took the step of offering jobs to 500 teaching and non-teaching staff from the various sectors of academics and administration.

Staff Members Donate One Day Salary For CM Relief Fund

Over 2000 staff members of the University from the Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Rajkot campuses unanimously agreed to contribute a part of their salaries amounting to 28 Lakh, dedicated towards supporting the Gujarat Chief Minister’s relief fund. The Parul University non-teaching staff, also went on to contribute their efforts by creating a total of 80,000 masks while at home in lockdown. The University’s mess opened its kitchen doors to prepare a total of 5000 rotis a day which were given to the people strangled in the govt. shelters due to lockdown.

Fundraiser provides food packages to daily wage labourers and safe return of students to their homes

In an effort to combat the challenges faced by daily wage labourers the lockdown, Parul University created its crowd funding platform so as to welcome contributions from well-wishers across the nation. A total of Rs 10,00 000 lacs were donated in funds and further converted into specific food relief packages which contained rice, aata, tuver dal, oil, potatoes, haldi powder, sugar amongst other essentials. Adding on to these social welfare initiatives, the University went on to guarantee the safe return of students by providing transportation services reaching as far as Nepal and Bangladesh.

Helping in the COVID-19 fight by reserving 150 ICU Beds and donating 5 ventilators to the city.

As a way of meeting the ever-growing demand of health facilities in the nation and the State of Gujarat, the University’s teaching hospital, Parul Sevashram Hospital expanded its previous COVID-19 bed reservations, to a total of 150 beds in the hospital’s ICU for prompt medical care. With the medical staff actively working all throughout the pandemic, this multi-speciality hospital has had the lowest cross infection rates amongst the doctors and nurses. In addition to its medical initiatives amidst COVID-19, Parul University will be providing freein-campus COVID-19 testing and treatment for all its students and staff members. Parul Sevashram Hospital also went on to donate 5 ventilators for use at a Vadodara based COVID-19 facility, the hospital sought to mitigate the effects of this pandemic, by offering such support-based relief to the State and Local government.

Pushing forward the Ministry of Ayush Agenda for natural social healthcare

The students and medical faculties distributed these preventive medicines to four lakh people residing within the Waghodia region in Vadodara and also the students and staff at the campus.  They also went on to provide door to door Ukado (Decoction) and Homeopathic medicines Ars. Alb. 30 as per the guidelines prescribed by the Ministry of Ayush which were designed to serve the purpose of boosting the people’s immunity.
