SAN DIEGO, CA – June 22, 2020 – Salon Owner of L-TRANsformation, Ly Tran has issued a call for rent relief for small business owners affected by the Corona Virus Pandemic.

L-TRANsformation is beauty boutique located in UTC/La Jolla. Just over a year ago Ly moved from Indiana to California and invested her life savings to purchase the business. There are approximately nine stylists who rents booths from Ly. One of whom has worked at this salon for over 18 years. In January, Ly used her cash reserves to refurbish the salon and was looking forward to the future when the pandemic hit in one of the busiest times of the year.

L-TRANsformation is now facing a possible closure as a result of the lockdown measures implemented to reduce the spread of the Corona Virus. Ly is now in arrears for 3 months’ rent (a total of $30,000 for April, May and June) and faces possibility of eviction proceedings.

Sadly, this is the case for many mom-and pop businesses that have been forced to close their doors for the past 8 weeks. One poll conducted by Alignable found that half of small businesses didn’t pay their rent or mortgage in April.

But despite a $349 million pot of money approved to help small businesses hard hit by Corona, many, including Ly, had very little success in securing the financial assistance that her business desperately needs. The fact is that big businesses have several advantages over small businesses. They have better access to capital, more access to reserves. Moreover, their relationships with financial institutions and the government place them at the front of the line when bail outs are offered.

Ly said: “I have spent countless days applying for many loans and programs with little success. I feel like we have been left behind to struggle.”

Although The COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented many small businesses are still under pressure from Landlords to pay up or pack up.

“We have always been a good tenant. I am not asking for landlords to write off debts. Just a bit of discretion for small businesses until things get back to some semblance of normalcy.”

Until then, Ly is appealing for some assistance from the relevant authorities to at least cover her outstanding rent. She would also like for Landlords to be more lenient with their commercial tenants by granting rent holidays, reductions or payment schedules.
