The Alpine Education Foundation is helping the Alpine School District to incorporate more STEAM education into its elementary schools through a Wheel of Experts program. The Alpine Education Foundation is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that works hard to fulfill its mission statement, “To generate funds that support educational opportunities for students of the Greater Alpine Area to better prepare today’s youth for the future.”

The Wheel of Experts Program offers students the opportunity to learn about multiple STEAM subjects over the course of a school year. Per the program, a teacher selects four subjects for their students to learn about. Each week, different experts come into the classroom for forty-five minutes for six weeks per subject. The experts teach kids about specific topics with fun projects, activities, and curriculum. Students can participate in small group courses, labs, and assemblies relating to the subject they are learning about. A few of the subjects that students get the chance to learn about could include coding, gardening, music, or robotics. All of the curriculum and equipment needed for the courses are provided by the Alpine Education Foundation.

The courses offered to students in elementary schools in the Alpine Union School District help expose kids to important and relevant subjects at a young age. The Wheel of Experts courses increase in difficulty as students progress in grade level to help keep the material relevant and challenging. As kids get older, having previous exposure to these subjects can help direct their class or career choices in middle school, high school, or even college.

Alpine Union School District is focusing on STEAM subjects to help students better prepare for their futures and expand their knowledge of future passions. To learn more about the Alpine Union School District and the STEAM programs available, click here!
