Turning Point Announces Opioid Awareness Campaign to Tackle Growing Prescription Drugs Abuse
With the Opioid Awareness Campaign, Turning Point is here to help turn around the use of opioids.

Minneapolis – April 27, 2020 – Turning Point, an organization devoted to improving the chemical health of the African American community, is pleased to announce the Opioid Awareness Campaign. The campaign has been launched to make everyone aware of the widespread misuse of prescription drugs in the African American Community.

As per data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2014-17 there was an increase of 130% in fatal opioid overdose rate among African Americans compared to about 61% among whites. The cost of the prescription abuse with opioid drugs is estimated to be over $2.5 trillion between 2015-18 as per the Council of Economic Advisers data.

Turning Point’s vision is to be a leader in offering quality, culturally specific behavioral health services and training to treat substance abuse cases,” says a representative from Turning Point.

To date Turning Point has helped many, many Africa Americans overcome substance abuse problems and restore family units. Currently Opioid use among the African American community has skyrocketed and with statistics steadily climbing, Turning Point is committed to enlighten and bring awareness to the African American community. The platform offers comprehensive services that are geared specifically towards Opioid use for African Americans.

The Opioid Awareness Campaign will help address a burning issue that does not get highlighted well enough in the media. Access to medical care for African Americans suffering from opioid abuse is also dismal in mainstream, and the campaign will serve to bring the needed relief.

Founded in 1976, Turning Point’s mission is to meet the needs of the community, beginning with chemical health. It runs various programs in categories such as substance abuse, housing, culturally specific services, and culture-based training. For substance abuse cases, it runs inpatient and outpatient programs aimed at transitioning to self-sufficiency. The program includes counseling, sober living skills, relationship counseling and job skills training.
