Award-winning book publisher and filmmaker, Tressa “Azarel” Smallwood, celebrated as the filmmaker of the month in honor of Women’s History Month

Tressa “Azarel” Smallwood is a Book Publisher and Movie Producer that has done fantastically well for herself in the world of entertainment. The award-winning multifaceted entertainer has attracted the attention of several bodies over the years and was recently honored by Washington DC as the filmmaker of the month. The local filmmaker has continued to show her creativity and ingenuity to the world, features that have taken her to the national stage and indeed put her on the global map as a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry.

The music industry and the world of entertainment across the globe have witnessed a series of evolution over the years. Stakeholders in different parts of the world have continued to contribute their quota to ensure that fans get the best possible experience. One individual that has seemingly taken the bull by the horns, particularly when it comes to promoting films that motivate the audience and transform lives is Tressa “Azarel” Smallwood.

The talented filmmaker has 4 films independently, all of which have been licensed by major networks such as BET, TV One and many more. Tressa “Azarel” Smallwood launched her award-winning Washington DC-based film company, MegaMind Media in 2014. The primary focus of the company is to shed light on the amazing talent in the area and create fulfilling African-American content. She has gone on to work with some of the best brains in the industry, including Rob Riley, Denise Boutte, Clifton Powell, and Lamman Rucker.

Prior to creating MegaMind Media, Tressa released her first novel in 2003, resigning from her teaching tenure to fulfill her dream of becoming an author and using her talent to help those who think the dream cannot happen. She has subsequently penned 4 novels and published 162 books by other authors.

Her works have been recognized across multiple platforms. In 2016, her film, “Secrets,” was licensed by BET NETWORKS. Other works from Tressa include “All In,” the 2019 ABFF & BET award-winning film, “Sinners Wanted” that starred Clifton Powell and Traci Braxton, and “The Available Wife,” starring KJ Smith, Terayle Hill, and Roger Guenveur Smith, all filmed in DC. She also recently hosted the DMV Film & TV Summit on March 7th and 8th.

Tressa is currently in development for three of her scripted TV Series, Caught Up, Positions, and Dirty Divorce (based off the bestselling book series).
